When you install the latest version of Microsoft Office on your computer, you're adding a new application instead of upgrading any existing ones. This means you end up having both the new version and the old version installed on the computer. You don't have to uninstall the old version, but you can do it to save disk space and hard drive clutter. You can uninstall the old version before or after you install the new one.
