There are many fixes, and they include:

Solution 1: Clean Your Phone Screen

As you just saw, you can use recovery to update iOS too. This could be the way to go if your problem is due to an outdated iOS version but a force reboot isn't getting your screen to work.

Solution 5: Enter Device Firmware Update Mode

Device firmware update mode is a lot like a recovery restore, but it was designed to tackle and identify more system errors.

The thing is, entering DFU mode can be dangerous. Make sure you've never jailbroken your system, as entering DFU mode would result in you bricking your device. Just like with a recovery restore, you shouldn't disconnect midway either.

If you've never jailbroken iOS and are in the clear, here's what you do:

• Launch iTunes (make sure it's the latest version)
• Close all the other programs that are running as they can interrupt the DFU process
• Plug your iPhone 12 to your computer via USB or lightning cable
• You'll have to click a combination of buttons: Press and hold the side button for around 3 seconds. While still holding the Side button, keep holding the Volume Down button. Hold them for around 10 seconds, and then quickly release the Side button but keep holding the Volume Down button for another 5 seconds (you will have entered DFU mode if your screen stays black)
• You'll see onscreen instructions on iTunes
• Follow them to get your touchscreen working again
