Move the bulleted list item so it becomes the third item in the list powerpoint

In Microsoft PowerPoint, bullets and lists are really the same thing, except one has markers in front of each item and the other uses sequential numbers. Because of this, PowerPoint doesn't let you place a list directly after a bullet point, and vice versa. To present a numbered list after a bullet point, you can use one of two methods. The first involves creating a second tier of bullet points offset from the first, like an outline, and then converting those bullets to numbers. The second method involves using a text box to make the list appear directly after the bullet.

Show

Outline Method

  1. Open the PowerPoint 2010 presentation that you want to work with. Then click the specific slide where you want your list to go from the list of slides on the left side of the screen.

  2. Click next to the bullet point where you want to start your list. Press "Space" to make the bullet point stick around, even though there won't be any text next to it. Press "Enter" to jump down to the next line and create a second bullet point.

  3. Press "Tab" to indent the bullet point to the right. Click the "Home" tab and then click the "Numbering" button in the Paragraph area of the ribbon. This will turn the second level of bullet points into numbers. Type in the first item in your list, then hit "Enter," and the number "2" will appear underneath the first entry.

  4. Press "Shift" and "Tab" once you have entered all the entries in your list to move the last bullet back to the main level. Click the "Bullets" button to turn this number back into a bullet and repeat the process to add another list, if necessary.

Text Box Method

  1. Open your PowerPoint 2010 presentation and select the slide where you want your list to go.

  2. Click the object box where you want to place your list, and the cursor will appear after the first bullet. Press "Space" to make the bullet permanent, then press "Enter" several times to create a second bullet several lines below the first.

  3. Click anywhere on the slide outside of the object box. Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen, then click the "Text Box" button. Click the mouse button anywhere on the screen, and a small text box will appear.

  4. Select the "Home" tab at the top of the screen. Then click the "Numbering" button in the Paragraph area of the ribbon. A number will appear in your text box. Type your list of items into the text box, pressing "Enter" after each one to create a list of numbers.

  5. Move your mouse to one of the text box's edges, then click and hold the mouse button. Drag the box so that the first item in the text box aligns with your bullet point. Release the mouse button and click anywhere on the slide outside of the text box. The numbered list will appear right after the bullet point.
